Spurious Cultist tells the story of several cults the day after they believed the world would end but it didn’t. It is an exploration of faith and hope. Each cult will be presented in three sections: Dramatizations, Codex, and Relics. Their presentation will be similar to that of a history museum exhibit.

Dramatizations. At the core of this exhibition will be a series of cinematic photographs. Each photograph will center around a different character as they react to the disintegration of their belief system. Their reactions vary: One character takes a stand against her leader during his last attempt at maintaining control while another character puts his life on the line in order to regain his faith.

Codex. A collection of journal entries and other writing will give the viewer insight into each characters actions and the history of the cult.

Relics. Artifacts from the cults will act as mementos of their artificial existence. Videos will feature footage of the characters that will tie all of these elements together.

The work in this exhibition is entirely fictional. The situations may seem melodramatic, but these dramatizations are meant to personify the internal struggle of the characters involved. The result will be an immersive exhibition that will give the viewer something to think about.
